Applying the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union in law and policymaking at national level - Guidance

Date of creation
English

Description

Since 2009 the Charter of Fundamental Rights (the Charter) has become legally binding and has the same legal value as the EU treaties. Nevertheless, the reality is that practitioners are often unsure whether or not the Charter applies to a given situation and how it adds value. This handbook aims to foster a better understanding of the Charter and to offer guidance on the use of the Charter at the national level based on the case law of the CJEU.

The handbook includes the following:

  • Part I: General Orientation
  • Part II: Practical Tools as well as an overview of Charter Rights.
