Funded by the European Commission (Internal Security Fund) and working closely with Europol-EC3 and CEPOL, ECTEG develops training materials for digital investigations and fighting cybercrime, while supporting international activities to harmonise cybercrime training across borders, among other actions.
Although such endeavours began in 2001, ECTEG was constituted as an International Non-Profit Association (AISBL) in 2016. Its members are European Union and European Economic Area Member States law enforcement agencies, international bodies, academia, private industry, and experts.ECTEG does not organise trainings or courses: the training materials are provided by ECTEG to be utilised or deployed by Law Enforcement Authorities in the European Union (and beyond, via international partners).
The process of cooperating with Judicial Authorities to create training materials began in 2024 with Eurojust and the European Judicial Cybercrime Network. ECTEG hopes to gradually incorporate more content focused on this audience and its interaction with Law Enforcement Authorities.
