The aim of the lesson is to improve the understanding of and the response by law enforcement officials dealing with victims of hate crimes, in particular of those motivated by anti-Muslim hatred.
Learning outcomes
- explain the meaning of anti-Muslim hatred;
- recognise hate crimes motivated by anti-Muslim hatred;
- identify barriers to reporting hate crimes motivated by anti-Muslim hatred;
- identify some of the specific needs of victims of hate crimes motivated by anti-Muslim hatred;
- summarise the victims’ rights to access to justice;
- outline the different international instruments concerning hate crimes (EU, Council of Europe, UN);
- describe what best practices may look like for law enforcement officers when dealing with anti-Muslim hatred.
The target audience is law enforcement officials and specialists responsible for recording and tackling hate crime and online hate speech.
