Description
This HELP course on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is part of a series of courses created by the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) of the Council of Europe, with EU financial support, aiming to support legal professionals and to enhance their capacities to effectively and coherently apply European fundamental rights standards at the national level. Legal professionals are at the front line in that respect, with their work being of critical importance in ensuring the effective and efficient protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. This comprehensive course aims at increasing the knowledge of legal professionals on the applicable international and CoE standards for a better protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. Throughout the course international standards on rights of persons with disabilities under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the CoE instruments (European Convention on Human Rights –ECHR, the revised European Social Charter-ESC(r) and soft law documents) will be identified and compared. The course is addressed to legal professionals (judges, prosecutors, lawyers). It consists of the following 5 substantive modules: Introductory module Non-discrimination and intersectionality Legal capacity and independent living Accessibility and independent living Social rights of persons with disabilities.
