Handbook on European law relating to the rights of the child

This handbook aims to illustrate how European law and case law accommodate the specific interests and needs of children. Children are full-fledged holders of rights. They are beneficiaries of all human and fundamental rights and subjects of special regulations, given their specific characteristics.

The Rights of the Child in Practice

Since the European Commission adopted the EU Agenda for the Rights of the Child, which identifies making the justice system more child-friendly as a key action item, the promotion of the rights of the child through the medium of EU legislation has become a reality. These training materials address practical issues concerning child-friendly justice and consist of concise texts suitable for training purposes, PowerPoint presentations as well as case studies (with possible solutions) and further interactive exercises (e.g. role plays) for use during practical workshops.

Parental Responsibility in a Cross-Border Context, including Child Abduction (Brussels IIa)

The training materials were conceived in a way to be used in the context of a 1.5-day seminar. There are two sets of case studies: one deals with the selected topics on an introductary level while the second allows more advanced training. Each case study encompasses the case scenario, the suggested solution, and some methodological advice for using the case together with the relevant background documentation which is needed in order to solve the cases. The finalised training materials are freely available and downloadable.
