EU Anti-Discrimination Law

The two European anti-discrimination directives adopted under Article 19 TFEU (Directive 2000/43 and Directive 2000/78) prohibit all forms of discrimination based on race or ethnic origin as well as all forms of discrimination in employment and occupation based on religion or convictions, handicap, age or sexual orientation.

EU Nature Protection Legislation – Focus on Species Protection

The training module addresses judges and prosecutors dealing with environmental issues with previous general, and in certain cases specific, knowledge regarding the subject. The module will provide judges and prosecutors with relevant information on the latest developments of the EU environmental law acquis, relevant jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the EU and an in-depth analysis of the topic with a special focus on EU Nature Protection Law – Focus on Species Protection.

Conflict of Laws

The training materials were conceived in a way to be used in the context of a 1.5-day seminar. Three case studies per topic were drafted by renowned EU experts. Each case study encompasses the case scenario, the suggested solution and some methodological advice for using the case. The following topics are covered: Rome I and Rome II Regulations. Developed with the financial support of the Civil Justice Programme of the European Union.

CJEU Hearings' Video #5: The reference for a preliminary ruling: a dialogue on european law with the European court of justice at the initiative of national judges

The result of the EC project ‘CJEU Hearings’ Recording as a Judicial Training Tool’, co-organised with the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) are six practical, hands-on individual training videos available on EU Academy (https://academy.europa.eu/courses/cjeu-training-videos) for self-learning or reuse in national training activities.

Training modules in the field of EU environmental law

The training package on EU environmental law consists of “modules” (a training package dedicated to a specific topic such as "Air quality and noise legislation", “EU Waste Legislation”, etc.). Each module is divided in “sessions” (specific training exercises, e.g. case-studies, presentation of Directives, etc.).

Parental Responsibility in a Cross-Border Context, including Child Abduction (Brussels IIa)

The training materials were conceived in a way to be used in the context of a 1.5-day seminar. There are two sets of case studies: one deals with the selected topics on an introductary level while the second allows more advanced training. Each case study encompasses the case scenario, the suggested solution, and some methodological advice for using the case together with the relevant background documentation which is needed in order to solve the cases. The finalised training materials are freely available and downloadable.

EU Gender Equality Law

The principle of equality between women and men has been part of EU law since the signing of the Treaty of Rome in 1957. Since then, a considerable body of legislation has been adopted on matters such as equal treatment in employment and occupation, health protection in the context of maternity, parental leave or access to goods and services.
