This HELP course on the standards of the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) is part of a series of courses created by the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) of the Council of Europe (CoE) aiming to support legal professionals and to enhance their capacities to effectively and coherently apply European fundamental rights standards at the national level. The course was developed in cooperation with the Council of Europe Commitee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) and with the support of the Project “Strengthening the application of the European Convention on Human Rights in Georgia”, under the European Union-Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance. It aims at preventing ill-treatment of persons deprived of their liberty and familiarizing legal professionals with the CPT’s key standards concerning the five most important places of deprivation of liberty: police stations, prisons, immigration detention facilities, psychiatric establishments and social care homes.
This HELP course on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence is part of a series of courses created by the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals aiming to support legal professionals and to enhance their capacities to effectively and coherently apply European fundamental rights standards at the national level. Violence against women is a grave violation of human rights and a form of discrimination against women. This comprehensive course aims at improving the quality of the judicial response in violence against women cases and supporting the access to justice for victims of violence. It covers in an interactive way the international and European legal framework and case-law governing the prevention and protection of women and girls from violence, focusing in particular on the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention). Furthermore, the course provides legal professionals with practical tools for dealing with cases of violence against women and domestic violence with respect to a human rights and victim centred approach. The course is addressed to legal professionals (judges, prosecutors, lawyers).

The European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals in the European Union member states (HELP in the EU) supports legal professionals to enhance their capacities to effectively and coherently apply European fundamental rights standards at the national level and through cross-border training, mainly referring to the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights (the Charter), the European Convention on Human Rights, the European Social Charter and relevant EU and Council of Europe Law via a series of online courses. The HELP online courses are addressed to legal professionals (judges, prosecutors and lawyers). They cover various human rights related topics, reflecting the different areas of work of the Council of Europe.
This series of handbooks cover the following topics: the right to respect for private and family life, the right to a fair trial, the right to personal liberty and security, freedom of thought, conscience and religion; freedom of expression, the right to property, the prohibition of torture, the right to life and the protection of migrants.
Generally, the three EU directives are quite well implemented in the Hungarian legal environment at the theoretical level. However, there are still discrepancies in everyday practice regarding compliance with the directives.

The module will provide judges and prosecutors with relevant information on the latest developments of the EU environmental law acquis, relevant jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the EU and an in-depth analysis of the topic with a special focus on EU Industrial Emissions Directive.
