The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union- e-learning Charter course: Charter case studies

Since 2009 the Charter of Fundamental Rights (the Charter) became legally binding and has the same legal value as the EU treaties. Nevertheless, the reality is that practitioners are often unsure whether or not the Charter applies to a given situation. The Charter case stuies course is part of a series of free of charge e-learning courses on Charter that aime at providing practical guidance on when and how the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights applies at national level in an interactive way. This online case study-based training course aims to help legal practitioners assess how the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights is applied in a range of policy areas. Focus is put on the field of application of the Charter, namely the question, whether the Charter is applicable to a concrete case at hand. This is done by examining a set of eight concrete cases as they were decided by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). Eight concrete cases as decided by the CJEU are presented together with questions about the applicability of the Charter in each one.
