Description
Since 2009 the Charter of Fundamental Rights (the Charter) became legally binding and has the same legal value as the EU treaties. Nevertheless, the reality is that practitioners are often unsure whether or not the Charter applies to a given situation. The Charter e-guidance course is part of a series of free of charge e-learning courses on Charter that aime at providing practical guidance on when and how the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights applies at national level in an interactive way. This online and interactive course Charter e-guidance targets judges but can also be of use to other legal practitioners. The course based on step-by-step questions with explanations and comes with examples from the case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union. It can be used for resolving a specific case and offers to national judges key elements for judgments. It consists of two parts, a step-by-step guidance including key elements for judgements and concrete examples with explanations. Currently, the course covers four policy areas: non-discrimination, data protection and information society, asylum and migration, and employment.
